You Must Be Kidding

Is this the end for us humans

Keeping alive the flame of protest

I lived in Paris for 2 years and it was the ongoing joke over there that not much could be achieved as everybody was always on strike.

And I know that the same joke is shared by most Europeans regarding the French on that matter.

french-revolution

And it is true that the French are a nation of people who are never happy, complain all the time about everything. They complain about the government, about their boss, about the neighbor, about the authorities, about the weather.

But it seems to me also that the French is the only nation that doesn’t just sit there and let things happen to them, they speak out and if they feel too much is too much, they take to the streets. As they are doing again today. As they did about one month ago or so.

I don’t know if it is the spirit of the 1789 revolution that is still being kept alive or if it’s just in the nature of the French but I think they are right. Here in North America, I have a feeling the governments can get away with anything, we just sit there, go on doing whatever we are doing, maybe write a few articles and blog posts about them, but basically we just take it in stride.

The situation is France is not worse than in the US or many other countries, but they are letting the government know in very clear terms that they’ve had enough and that something has to change. And every time they do this, they gain some result, small or not so small.

Of course I’m not for destructive protests such as what happened in the “banlieus” (suburbs) a few years back, but peaceful protests such as the one a month ago and hopefully this one today send a clear message to the governments.

We should do the same here.  We should stop being sheep that are lead to their doom and stand up for our rights.
